Personal Identity Children's Sweaters with Drawstrings Recalled by Sears
Due to Strangulation Hazard

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in
cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary
recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using
recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: Personal Identity-brand V-neck sweaters with hood

Units: About 5,200

Importer: A & R Knitwear, of New York, N.Y.

Hazard: The recalled sweaters have a drawstring through the hood, posing
a strangulation hazard to children. In February 1996, CPSC issued
guidelines (pdf) to help prevent children from strangling or getting
entangled on the neck and waist by drawstrings in upper garments, such
as jackets and sweatshirts.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported.

Description: The recalled sweaters have a V-neck, hood and kangaroo
pocket. The sweaters are either pink with charcoal stripes or blue with
white stripes. They were sold in the following girls' sizes: small,
medium, large, and extra large.

Sold at: Sears stores nationwide during September 2007 for about $34.

Manufactured in: Pakistan

Remedy: Consumers should immediately remove the drawstring to eliminate
the hazard.

Consumer Contact: For additional information, contact Sears at (800)
659-7026 between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. CT Monday through Saturday, or visit
the firm's Web site at www.sears.com

Note: CPSC was alerted to this hazard by the State of Connecticut's
Department of Consumer Protection.
